Mike was a great ride leader who always devised the most interesting routes, but mainly he was great company and I will miss his companionship and conversation.

“A great friend has left us” So said Eddy Merckx on the death of Raymond Poulidor, the much-loved French cyclist, in November 2019. And so it is for us: with the sad news of Mike’s death we feel that a great friend has left us. Mike was a campaigner for better cycling in Petersfield and an exceptional ride leader for the Cyclists’ Touring Club (Cycling UK). He possessed an extraordinary ability to remember and navigate complex routes, particularly on the roads that criss-cross the hangers in the South Downs. Mike was an inspiration to others, generous with his knowledge of cycling, modest about his own achievements and a kindly, gentle man. We will miss him greatly.
